if there were traces of
disappointment in your
shrugging shoulders.
Every time I thought to ask,
my mind would push the thoughts away
and chastise itself for not
being bolder.
And when the winter came,
I couldn't tell whether it was you that
sent shivers down my spine, or just the world
becoming colder.
I did find laugh lines by your eyes,
how easily I am reminded
that we're only ever
growing older.
